The unit I place these filters into is a great unit, it's relatively efficient, low noise, and moves a good amount of air. The problem is that these filters are quite large, with a lot of plastic, and as a result I feel terrible when I have to replace one because it's such a large object that has to go into the garbage. I don't understand why the shell couldn't be recycled and have a biodegradable inner filter or some other solution to keep such a large amount of waste out of the dump.
This does work well, and when there are fires in the area I am really happy to have this, but I do wish that it wasn't such a huge amount of waste afterwards.
First, I really wish they gave some instructions on WHEN to clean or WHAT to look for in knowing when to clean it. That said, the second point i have is that I live in Los Angeles -- super flithy and I love to keep my windows open so it's really no surprise that I've gone through 1 filter in 1 month. Blah! I may need to consider all this "fresh" air.
